Javascript Exercises & Site Development Part 1

This week, in my absence, you will be working on the following: a quiz, Javascript learning modules, and project design. Read the following carefully:

Be sure you have submitted a project proposal to me via email.

JavaScript Learning Modules

Instructions:
Visit http://www.codecademy.com/#!/exercise/0
Complete all eight exercises.
– Track all code by creating a new text document and writing down the code you used (starting with the exercise “name”.length). To get back to the previous code example, simply click on the item marked with a CHECK
– The results of this tutorial, along with HTML5 Missing Manual Appendix B, will be the basis for the quiz next week.
– I expect you to be confused by some of this. READ CAREFULLY. Try everything, ask each other questions and help each other out.
– Feel free to login to the site to save your progress. I make no guarantees as to how much/little spam you might receive from this, but it seems as though it would be kind to you and only publicize its own services.

** Submit at the end of class: ***
1. REPORT TO ME via email your total score, exercises completed, and achievements completed (seen in the upper right hand corner) via email.
2. Attach your code documentation to the email (as a txt file)

Tips:
Lesson 5 begins work in an in-page editor. Be careful here – when you get to this point, you’ll have to “Run” each line of code.

Begin today, due next week:
Begin working on your project storyboards and/or wireframes. Feel free to begin prototyping your web site in Fireworks, Dreamweaver, hand code, or whatever method is suitable for you.

HOMEWORK:
- Re-read Chapter 5 (HTML Audio and Video) for next week
- Read Chapter 6 for next week
- Review Appendix B for the quiz next week
- Bring three conceptual designs for your web site by next week based on the site you’ve proposed. I will let you know if your proposal is *not* accepted by Wednesday. If you don’t hear from me by Wednesday 9 AM, your project is approved for development.
