Research

My research explores how the Internet and networked communications challenge existing legal, social, and economic structures, particularly as pertaining to media production, distribution of digital files, and emerging platforms of creative production. I have become quite interested in the way large-scale distributed production projects emerge. What contexts support the creation of crowdsourced media production projects? What is the role of interactivity in the way audiences encounter media? How are industries grappling with the shift to digital distribution of formerly tangible media properties like DVDs? What types of creative opportunities emerge from networked environments and robust data-driven storytelling platforms?
