Offered in the Communication Design program
Texas State University – San Marcos
Course Description from Fall 2012
This course is designed to introduce students to UI/UX design for mobile touchscreen devices. The mobile touchscreen device (smartphone/tablet) has become an integral part of daily life for many people, and a small subset of the population of the United States uses the mobile phone as their only point of Internet access. The process of designing for these mobile devices requires consideration of many human-computer interaction factors, including but not limited to technological platform and operating system considerations, awareness of bandwidth and efficiency, social networking site usage, privacy, and security. In this course, students design interfaces or the iOS platform and the devices that use the platform, including the iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone. We will discuss the differences between this platform and the other dominant competitor in the mobile OS industry, the Android platform. The Apple environment will serve as a common starting point for understanding mobile UI design.
